About Kent Gubrud
Kent Gubrud has been practicing law for over 32 years. He leads the Law Office of Kent Gubrud P.C., located in the Manhattan. Attorney Gubrud’s office experienced and proficient in areas such as NYC Airbnb rentals, criminal law real estate, litigation and more.
In the fields of real estate and property law, and commercial transactions, the firm provides services in matters such as foreclosures, short sale and other real estate disputes, and other types of litigation. During the first 15 years after law school, Attorney Gubrud worked as a public defender and then as private criminal defense counsel in Oregon, where he handled about fifty jury trials out of thousands of criminal and administrative proceedings.
He moved to New York City in 2002 where he worked for several law firms handling personal injury and medical malpractice cases. In 2008, he started his own real estate firm where he was both CEO and chief legal officer for this firm. In 2012, Attorney Gubrud first got involved in adjudicating cases involving New York City short term rentals against the City of New York, landlords and the State Attorney General and even Airbnb. In 2015, he organized and filed with co-counsel a lawsuit against Airbnb and the NYS Attorney General in its civil investigation of NYC Airbnb hosts after Airbnb’s counsel had already given up. He managed to defeat both of them and went on to confront and defeat the City of New York in its related hotel tax investigation of NYC Airbnb hosts. He and his co-counsel prepared and filed a class action lawsuit against Airbnb in 2016 that resulted in a confidential settlement.
Attorney Gubrud is admitted to the bars of’ New York and Oregon, including the federal courts of the Second and the Ninth Circuit[s]. He is an active member of the American Bar Association and [was the President and Vice President of the McMinnville. Bar Association of New York City. He graduated from the University of Oregon with his Juris Doctor and is fluent in German and English. Attorney Gubrud has been featured in notable publications such as the New York Post and others.
